Overview
This play is a Christian retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale in a modern setting with Maria Williams, a bible-toting, 19-year-old, motherless and fatherless girl that has an unwavering faith in God, and a constant prayer that God is going to change her situation. James, the father Maria thought was dead, appears and becomes her fairy godfather. The non-believing, cruel, snobby, but successful author, Icyline Williams takes the role of the stepmother. Icyline was contractually bound to raise Maria when James had to unexpectedly leave town. Outraged by the terms of the contract, Icyline turns Maria into the maid. The aggressive, extremely obsessed, and equally snobby Charlene serves as the stepsister, and Prince Blackwell, the rich son of the Bishop, who is now in search of his future wife, acts as Prince Charming. A huge Christmas Eve Masquerade Party substitutes for the ball that changes Maria’s life forever.
As Christmas draws nearer, Icyline helps Charlene to prepare for the big night; James, and a couple of angels show up and set off a chain of events that will eventually lead to Maria’s breakthrough and James, Icyline, and Charlene’s return to God.
